Abstract:
Providing education which meets the required quality standards is always a demanding task. Specially when you move to a new country: the criteria may be different from one country to another. In this paper, we present our experience when moving to a new academic position as a Lecturer in Computer Science at Queen’s University Belfast in Northern Ireland, United Kindgom. We cover topics such as preparation, delivery and revision of lectures, laboratories, assignments and assessments, course organization, module projects, module co-ordination, project supervision, marking schemes, number of students per class, etc. In addition, we also consider matters like, for example, the education system and the duration of the different stages, taking into account not only higher education but also other levels. We believe that it is important to provide this context to deliver education of high quality. Although the field of Computer Science is employed as a use case, we believe that the paper could also be helpful for future academics in other fields moving to this country.
