Abstract:
In 2012, the General Directorate of Computing and Information and Communication Technologies of UNAM, through the Coordination of Technologies for Education, now the Directorate of Innovation in Technologies for Education, developed the TICómetro (ICT meter), an instrument designed to assess the digital skills of students entering high school and undergraduate programs. The questionnaire includes 15–20 contextual questions, updated over time to reflect evolving technologies, and 30 core questions across four dimensions: ICT access, information processing, information search, communication and collaboration, and information security. Results are immediately provided to students via a color-coded ribbon.
Since 2016, the TICómetro has been applied to incoming cohorts of the Open University System (SUA) at the Faculty of Psychology. This paper analyzes data from students who entered between August 2015 and August 2024, highlighting trends in students' initial digital competencies and identifying shifts in their readiness to engage with ICT. The findings offer valuable insights into the impact of technological advancements and evolving educational needs on digital literacy among SUA students. Keywords:
