Abstract:
During the COVID-19 confinement period, students and teachers faced the need to adapt their teaching activities and develop new skills in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Teaching and learning activities required the integration of technology to establish communication through video calls, work collaboratively at a distance, use mobile devices and tools available in the cloud to carry out academic activities, among others.
In this context, the Directorate of Innovation in Technologies for Education (DITE) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) carried out an update of the digital skills matrix (DSM) that was published in 2016 by the Coordination of Technologies for Education (CTE) of the UNAM. This initiative seeks to address the teacher´s need to adapt their activities to changes in teaching and learning processes for any educational modality.
This paper explains the process and stages carried out during 2022 that resulted in a matrix with a structure of six domains and 27 digital competencies (skills) to address educational processes in middle and higher levels. This work has as a reference some international standards in digital skills and 32 articles on the state of the art of digital skills in education, published in 2021 in the Web of Science.
