Abstract:
The advent of the Metaverse has initiated a paradigm shift, beyond traditional digital limitations, establishing an interconnected realm with significant implications, particularly in the realm of educational games. This detailed and systematic study provides an overview of the fundamental attributes of the Metaverse and their potential to bring about transformative changes in the field of educational gaming. Our review tracks the Metaverse's evolution from Neal Stevenson's "Snow Crash" to contemporary platforms like Decentraland. The study centers on the fields of educational games with a focus on assessing five crucial elements of the Metaverse: network Infrastructure, cyber-reality interface, data management, authentication mechanisms, and content generation. This study explores the historical connections to video games and digs into the user-driven ecosystem of Metaverse educational games, highlighting the significant impact these components have on enriching educational gaming experiences for the users.
