Abstract:
The current model for running the Extended Curriculum Programme of the Bachelor of Science (BSc ECP) in an attempt to increase access into the science programmes and qualifications does not provide the desired results compared to the normal BSc programme. When introduced, the BSc ECP was expected to ensure that the BSc degree awarded to the BSc ECP and BSc groups should be identical. Discrepancies are shown currently though. Higher throughputs emerge from BSc. When the two groups start mixing at the BSc II level, the differences are that the BSc students are superior in performance. One of the identified causes is the long pause from learning in some subjects that the BSc ECP group have. This group do some 2nd-year courses of the BSc after having a year without having seen them at 1st-year while most of the BSc student would have done the same courses in the previous year. An improvement model is proposed, where customisation of the curriculum for each individual student is designed according to the student’s envisaged majors.
