Abstract:
The ever-changing nature of teaching and learning provisions calls for more advanced and effective teaching strategies. Today learners learn best when they actively participate and engage in the learning process. When they are motivated to learn, they can build on their existing knowledge and understanding. The teachers therefore need special competencies to provide the necessary support for these learners.
The fundamental importance of using contemporary teaching strategies is deemed to make learning exciting and fulfilling. These teaching strategies should provide students with the relevant skills and knowledge which allow them to take more responsibility for their own learning. In this context, a positive learning environment is thus to be created, for more interactive and participatory learning experience.
The learning profession has long recognised the need for innovative instructional activities that relate to the diverse learning styles of learners. It is therefore apparent for educators to match their presentation with the nature of the subject, such as providing correct learning methods, strategies, and context; than matching individuals’ learning preferences.
The integration of technology on the other hand, provides phenomenal learning experience and therefore strengthens collaborative learning among students belonging to various fields of specialities.
This paper serves to provide critical reflection of the teacher trainer’s in an attempt to show the integration of diverse teaching strategies for functional learning as practised by student teachers of the Educational Studies Department of Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) at one of the Project Expedition in Fountains Valley (Pretoria: South Africa). Keywords:
