This paper presents a collaborative initiative "Borrow and Read" by a private language school and a public library with the aim to promote foreign language learning through use of library resources. This initiative encourages English and German students in a private language school to borrow and use graded readers and other foreign language books from the local public library. As part of this initiative, foreign language classes are organized both in the classroom and online through e-learning platforms such as Moodle and LearnDash following a blended learning model that includes reading, discussion and reflection activities. Library books are used in different ways: for comprehension exercises, class discussions, reflective and writing activities. On e-learning platforms books are used for quizzes, interactive exercises, and vocabulary practice and discussion forums. It enhances students' language and cultural competence, strengthens community participation and promotes use of public library resources. A student survey was conducted in order to evaluate the students’ reading habits, learning achievements and perception of library use. The library statistical data shows that there was the increase in foreign language book circulation. This initiative is an example of good practice showcasing increase in students’ motivation for language learning and reading.
