Abstract:
The relevance of the problem under discussion is caused by the fact that in today's world knowledge of foreign languages is a strong necessity. However, it is not enough just to teach the student to build lexically and grammatically correctly sentences. It is important to help students develop intercultural communication skills. One of the main aspects of intercultural competence is the sociocultural aspect. The purpose of the article is to review the problem of selecting the content of the socio-cultural component in foreign language classes in view of recent world events. It was made an attempt to answer the question, how such phenomena as, for example, migration, climate change, personal self-identification, etc., can affect the content of the sociocultural component. The methods of the research are theoretical analysis of linguistic and educational literature, study and summarize best practices. The results of the article can be applied in the practice of teaching a foreign language.
