Abstract:
The relevance of the problem under investigation lies in the fact that in the modern world knowledge of foreign languages is an indisputable fact. Consequently the requirements to the methods of teaching of foreign languages are increasing. The purpose of the article is to review and describe the current state of the competence approach in the person-oriented learning of foreign languages.The competence approach has been spread as a result of searching for new ways to modernize Russian university education. The address to this concept is connected with the desire to determine the changes in education that arises of the fact of the changes taking place in society. The point of university education is to develop in students the ability to solve problems in different types and spheres of activity, using social experience which includes the students' own experience.The methods of the research are the study, analysis and generalization of the recent achievements on the topic under study. As a result of the research an attempt was made to define this concept and systematize its components, as well as a comparative analysis of the Russian and European approaches. The results of the article can be applied in the practice of teaching of a foreign language.
