Abstract:
This study investigated the efficacy of a parent training intervention aimed at enhancing Turkish parents' utilization of milieu teaching (MT) strategies and its subsequent influence on child language development. Employing an adapted multiple-probe across participants single-case experimental research design, three mother-child dyads participated in the study. The intervention consisted of a 4-hour parent training session, followed by 30-minute home-based coaching sessions twice a week for 8-10 weeks. The findings revealed a significant enhancement in the accurate implementation of MT strategies following the parent training and subsequent home-based coaching. Moreover, participating parents sustained a consistently high level of correct MT strategy application even after the conclusion of the coaching sessions. As a result of mothers' increased proficiency in utilizing MT strategies, there was a corresponding increase in the percentage of accurate responses from their children regarding language targets. Both participating mothers and their spouses expressed satisfaction with the parent training intervention. The study underscores the importance of such interventions in fostering effective parent-child interactions and improving child language outcomes. Implications for future research in this domain are discussed.
