Abstract:
This article is focused on the presentation of the results of a two-year experimental study of the results of teaching the subject: “Preparation on the battlefield”. We conducted the first year of measurement in the academic year 2019-2020. In the second academic year 2020-2021, limitations caused by implementing measures because of the pandemic situation caused by the COVID-19 virus burdened the measurement. This year, we carried the teaching out using distance methods and partly in person in the summer semester, when the measures were released. The results of both semesters illustrate a decline in students’ knowledge.

The study involved over 800 students who were evaluated at the end of each semester with the same battery of test questions. Thus, it can be stated that the results present statistically significant data. Students came from two faculties of the University of Defense, and both teachers were in charge of the same students. The subsidy for teaching hours was the same in both years. In the second pandemic year, it was even slightly increased. However, despite the promising possibilities of distance education programs, the results did not meet expectations. In the pandemic year, there was a significant drop in the knowledge of students and especially their ability to apply specific, learned procedures on practical examples. The aim of the study was to create the same conditions for students to get credit and master the course for both years. Thus, only the form of teaching became the main influencing factor. When from the current academic year, most of the teaching was realized remotely, with an effort to maximum use the possibilities of modern technologies so that all the principles of modern pedagogy are observed to the maximum extent.

Besides the formulation of the results, the article tries to find the causes of the knowledge decline and especially ways to avoid this situation in the future. Moodle software was used for the testing itself, which allows the use of a wide range of evaluation tools. This made it possible to evaluate each issue and its impact on evaluation.

Questions were asked of students in two areas. The first part, questions verifying theoretical knowledge, the second part was focused on the ability to apply knowledge. This part is especially problematic in the second semester of the covid year.
