Abstract:
The article concentrates on addressing the very current topic - the success rate of distance education of first-year students of the University of Defense in Brno in vocational-oriented subjects. The study focuses on the winter semester that the students of both University faculties completed according to the currently valid study program. The current epidemic situation and the Regulation of the The government of the Czech Republic has caused that all this year’s lectures, tutorials, and seminars took part via the Moodle, MS Teams programs and shared on youtube.com. We have also incorporated an “escape game” in the education; the game was realized in the MS Teams program. The course was concluded by a credit test verifying the gained the necessary knowledge and skills of students in the Moodle program. Since last year, the test has not been modified when all lectures, tutorials, and seminars were held in the face-to-face (full-time) form.

The credit test contains a wide range of questions focused on the presented topics. It includes an the assemblage of more than a hundred different tasks; some questions concentrate on skills, some test the students’ ability to apply the acquired knowledge. By comparing the results achieved by students (the group consisted of more than 500 respondents), we have gained a relatively straightforward and objective answer to the question concerning the effectiveness of distance learning in the freshman class of the university studies compared to the standard system dominated by full-time teaching and practice.

The effectiveness of distance form education was furthermore determined by using the same number of teaching classes and their subject matter that the same teacher taught. By doing so, the influence of other inputs on the system has been eliminated. The analyzed and annotated results have been confronted with the potential of a further increase in the teaching effectiveness, which represented a relatively versatile concept, both in full-time and online (distance) form.
