Abstract:
Public libraries play a fundamental role in their local communities. They adapt to modern trends and initiatives in order to serve the members of their communities and meet their evolving needs. Since environmental issues have been a global challenge that affect the human health and well-being, it comes as no surprise that libraries are committed to promoting sustainability and awareness on environmental issues. They implement environmentally green practices with the goal of empowering individuals to protect environment and creating healthy and sustainable communities. This paper focuses on the Jagodina Public Library’s initiative in providing green information literacy for pre-school and primary-school children. Through various programmes, including recycling and waste reduction workshops, environmental art and crafts, story time and environmental literature, environmental films, community actions, etc., the Library aims to educate, inspire and empower children to become more environmentally literate. By fostering green information literacy skills among children, the Library tends to instill a love of nature, stimulate their creative thinking, promote sustainable behavior and help them gain deeper understanding of the world around them. The Library conducted the user experience survey with children who participated in the green information literacy programmes in order to gain deeper insight into the effectiveness of the programmes, understand children’s experiences, identify the areas of improvement and make sure that the future programmes meet the children’s needs and stay relevant and engaging.
