Abstract:
In the context of technology boom and live-long learning self-directed learning takes significant place in the learning process. Peoples needs of deep knowledge’s in relatively narrow subject area to solve the practical problem or to developed personal projects. Most of them have academic education and strong knowledge base but it is not enough. Therefore one portal for self-directed learning, information and knowledge exchange, problem discussions, private experiments end collaborations is requisite and helpful.

In this paper is discussed conceptual model and architecture for self-directed learning in electronics and computer technology web-portal. The main significant systems are: information system, search system, self-directed assessment system, communication system, experiment system, and collaboration systems; administrative systems - user profile management and security management systems. Information system includes local library with copies or links to papers and books, supported with full bibliography information; local glossary, designed on wiki principles; personal blog areas. Search system includes tools for searching in local library or in global web. Self-directed assessment system includes two sub-systems: task definition and task execution. Tasks are generated on run time, basing on definitions, and are accompanied by the correct answers and explanations. Communication system includes: synchronous and asynchronous message exchange, discussion forums.

Experiment system includes two subsystems: simulation and remote experiment subsystems. Collaboration system includes tools for video-conferences between members, shared work place, shared experimental results. Access to the system and resources is managed based on the roles and usernames. Information accuracy is controlled by the members.
Portal interface is designed to be lightweight. There are several ways to get access to any resource or system. Current activities, new messages or information is presented in separate interface area.
