Abstract:
In the paper, the authors discuss the issue of burnout syndrome in helping professions and possibilities of its prevention. The objective is to elaborate, both theoretically and empirically, the issue of burnout syndrome, and offer possibilities of its prevention in helping workers. Part of the paper is a study on burnout syndrome in students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health Care, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. The main study objective was to map the rate of burnout syndrome in students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health Care, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra.

Using the SBI, we found a significantly lower value of burnout in the students studying in the first year of Bachelor’s studies than in the students studying in the second year of Master’s studies. We found a negative relationship of weak dependence between burnout and sense of coherence.

The study results show that, similarly as in working life, the level of burnout in students after five years of studies is significantly higher. The study results also confirmed that the personality characteristic sense of coherence can act as one of protective factors related to burnout syndrome in students.
