Abstract:
The arrival of the last two years of Secondary School to a depopulatred rural area of the mountains of Valencia during the 2016-17 course has meant a change of life for a handful of families of four villages.
The existence of the center implies that the students of the new course at IES de Vilafranca can go back every afternoon home, reducing the stays away from home, which meant moving to study in other places 100 km away.
The research we propose is qualitative. The exploration of the discourses about language, education or identity demands a design that allows to capture the changes in the perceptions, appraisals and actions of the students that have begun the Baccalaureate in this institute in the last courses.
The first field work phase is unique at the time of data collection. The week before the classes we interviewed all students enrolled in the first year of the IES Baccalaureate in Vilafranca. With the aim of producing speeches about the expectations, opinions, attitudes regarding what is not yet, the fieldwork carried out at that time ‘zero’ to the 16 people who inaugurated the first baccalaureate course allows us to explore the perceptions and attitudes about their career and perspectives on the new educational and vital stage that emerged in comparison to what had been done by their colleagues, sisters and older brothers in previous years.
Usually, in terms of research, only the audio is recorded, since the analysis of non-verbal communication integrates into the transcription of audio with the identification of silences, paralingual elements such as intensity and tone, but also the laughing, sighing, etc. However, given the longitudinal nature of the study, we understand that audiovisual recording will allow to develop other types of research products, beyond the reports. We believe that the material may be interested in making an audiovisual document that is informative, which aims to give the actors and actresses the value of the process.
The analysis here is how to combine audio information recorded in a research context with audio-visual information recorded in a production context towards a public product.
Through a qualitative methodological approach the research team will analyze this relocation of their teenage lives, closer to their families, which contains a series of changes that can be important in the perceptions of life in the rural environment, their immediate projects or in the medium to long term. Also, of course, in family negotiations.
In this sense, the role of the educational center can be fundamental. The educational center started as a pilot program, being the only IES shared between autonomous communities, so is a challenge for the entire educational community involved. The uniqueness of experience raises, in fact, many questions from any educational agent or researcher who is minimally interested in the territory, in the rural school, in the development and sustainability of rural areas, in the future of young people … Furthermore, a project that combines different registration techniques together with analyzing products and audiovisual products needs a methodological analysis in order to explore challenges, problems and solutions carried out. Keywords:
