Abstract:
Training for sustainability is a goal which, since 2005, is present in the educational system. Some universities have begun to consider even the need to establish procedures to become "Sustainable Universities", so that sustainability permeates the entire university training process, especially teachers, responsible for instilling the principles of sustainability through teaching and research.

In the case of tourism, sustainability has become a key issue for both the competitiveness of tourist destinations, and the survival of these. University studies of tourism, articulated through the Degree of Tourism, channel the training of future planners and managers in this area, so it is a degree especially interesting for the implementation of the principles of training for sustainability.

The aim of this paper is to present the results of a study in which it is assessed the level of knowledge in relation to the concept of sustainability, principles and practices, of students and teachers of the Degree of Tourism, in this case, taught at the University of Jaén, and their perception about the effort made by the University in improving their training in this regard..

The results show the need for a reorientation of training of students and teachers in sustainability. Students have some shortcomings regarding the concept of sustainability and its practical application, but they value sustainability as a differentiator of their training in tourism and believe they can improve their chances of access to the labor market. Teachers, meanwhile, also have important shortcomings regarding sustainability and how to train for sustainability, but show great willingness to complete their training in this regard, in order to transfer this knowledge to students through the transversal inclusion of this concept in different subjects of the Degree of Tourism.
