Abstract:
Usability of software has become one of the most important success factor for software development. In today’s era of omnichannel digital experiences, software engineers still experience difficulties in understanding UX design. Small companies, which are developing the majority of software rarely employ UX designers.

Scrum teams in these companies rarely possess the knowledge to design user experiences that are consistent and seamless across web and mobile. The result we see every day in unusable software.

One possible solution is to teach software engineers the essential knowledge and skills to enable them to develop usable software. In many cases this approach is very successful for SCRUM teams.

At the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien in cooperation with the UXPA-Austria (User Experience Professionals Association Austria) we developed several programs to achieve this goal.

The necessary skill sets for success will be demonstrated on the example of the online checkin process from two airlines.

These skillsets are being taught in for different programs on a different level. Details of the programs will be shown.
