Abstract:

The training in civil protection has become a central goal of training in many countries. Informing and raising awareness of self-protection issues is a key factor in preventing and avoiding risks from climatic, geophysical or technological factors and potentially causing natural or other disasters. Each country should have the knowledge to appropriate aware its citizens and be prepared for the peculiarities may deal with. Through the cooperation of the emergency agencies, state and citizens as well as the attempt for constant improvements, the destructive events can be eliminated to the minimum.

“Developing Skills in Dealing with Emergencies, Civil Protection for People, (CPP)” is an exchange of good practices ERASMUS+ project. The partnership consisted of five European organizations from the Georgia-Technical University of Georgia, Greece-OIKO.POLI.S a volunteer association with interests in environmental and cultural initiatives and activities and also, the coordinator, Italy-Training2000, an adult education and training organisation , Falchi Della Rovere, a volunteer association in the field of Civil protection and Turkey-University of Antalya, dealing with education and training, cultural activities and initiatives, civil protection interventions.

Our paper is part of the material of training courses and practicing events for citizens of local communities in order to train them to deal with emergencies (such as earthquakes, flooding, extreme weather conditions, etc) before, during and after a calamity.

Each organization of the partnership has developed case studies, and best practices. Furthermore, two webinars took place (relative with industrial accidents ) and one online seminar has been developed on a Moodle platform.

The target groups for the project were youth organizations, school students, teachers, and teachers’ associations, open care centers for adults, local authorities, a hotspot for refugees, volunteer associations and relevant networks.

The final outcome is a compendium, which will contain information and other materials produced and collected from all the partners’ countries during the project implementation period as good practices, questionnaires in order to investigate the citizens' awareness on civil security issues, case studies and a survival guide created by all partners in collaboration.

The sustainability of the project is the creation of a Network of people and associations in all Europe with the purpose of continuing to exchange ideas and training about civil protection.

Also, all partners will organize workshops to attract volunteers to be trained in civil protection.

The activities helped people enhance their understanding of civil protection aspects. The immersion in the project helps people to discuss important issues concerning civil protection aspects as we inferred through our analysis (2 surveys). Also, all activities have shown how urgent is the need to set up Human Networks to exchange ideas and knowledge on civil protection.
