Abstract:
Personalisation can provide many benefits when applied to an educational process, and as such, the study and development of systems that can automatically adjust Virtual Reality Learning Environment (VRLE) experiences to meet preferences at an individual level, could contribute towards making future versions of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) more engaging and satisfying places for those using them in education.
In this paper, Artificial Intelligent (AI) environment customization and recommendation for VRLEs are investigated with the goal of providing a greater understanding of how such AI systems can be leveraged to improve VRLE enjoyment and personalisation.
This is achieved is through the production of a demo that leverages Machine Learning (ML) to modify VRLE features within a VR classroom. User feedback is gathered and leveraged by a Reinforcement Learning (RL) agent to redesign the classroom in real time. This feedback, as well as the state of the VR classrooms, is also used to generate Learner Profiles for each user.
Additionally, due to a lack of robust standards in evaluating user experiences in VRLEs, evaluation strategies from the educational games sector were investigated and adapted to form the basis of this paper’s evaluation strategy. Keywords:
