Abstract:
The implementation of games in the educational process has been shown in several scientific studies to be an effective tool for the development of both individual and team skills. Despite certain limitations, educational games are becoming known not only to the scientific community but also to educational institutions. In the context of this issue, the article examines selected Slovak game projects and the companies behind their development. The aim of the study is to provide a brief overview of educational digital games and the studios dedicated to their development in Slovakia. At the beginning, the study offers research on the Slovak gaming market and its current state. The research focuses on several key areas. It provides an overview of Slovak companies and game studios that develop educational games or projects. It clearly identifies the game genres, platforms, and content focus of these projects. The skills fostered by these games are also noteworthy. Another key area of the paper explores the use and implementation of these games or activities in school and after-school settings. The article opens up a discussion on the benefits and challenges associated with the use of educational games and provides recommendations for future research in this area. This study provides valuable insights into the current status and potential of educational games in Slovakia and contributes to a better understanding of their role in the educational process.
