Abstract:
On polish labour market there is a shortage of approximately 50 thousands of IT specialists, especially programmers [Sedlak & Sedlak Payroll Report for IT Industry 2016]. Unfortunately, number of students on information technology (IT) studies drops significantly. In 2010 only 72,7 thousands of Polish students choose IT as their specialisation and in 2015 this number decreased to 51,9 thousand. Moreover, only 8,5 thousand people graduated IT studies in 2015 [Central Statistical Office, 2018]. It is expected that this number will decrease because more and more students choose alternative ways to learn skills required by employers.

Additionally, there is a new trend on polish labour market. People from different sectors who have analytical skills try to learn how to program and change their job to a programmer or software tester. This applies to people of all ages, not only students but also adults. There are a lot of innovative ways for lifelong education bootcamps, independent learning, massive open online courses e.t.c.

The main purpose of the research described in this article was to collect and analyze the opinions of current IT entrepreneurs and potential IT employees with and without knowledge and experience in the field of programming in order to develop the actual profile and expected job candidate in IT. The authors included such elements as knowledge of IT sources and methods of acquiring knowledge, long-term visions of a professional career.
