Abstract:
Every person is endowed with a certain set of competencies. One of the key competences is linguistic competence. There are two linguistic competences: the competence of communication in the native language and the competence of communication in a foreign language. The competence of communication in the native language includes the expression and interpretation of ideas, opinions, concepts and points of view in verbal and written form, the correct use of language in everyday life, in social activities, education, work and leisure. Communication competence in a foreign language includes developmental activities focusing on verbal, motor and sensory learning. In the process of developing this competence, each pupil is given a role, a part to play - they draw, sing, dance, act, participate in projects, analyse and lecture. In terms of the organisation of teaching, individual, cooperative and frontal work play a role in the effective development of communicative competence in foreign languages.

Is knowledge of the national language a barrier? In our research, we focused on the language competences of university students with Hungarian as their language of instruction in Slovakia. 105 full-time and part-time students, second and third year students of pre-school and elementary pedagogy bachelor studies participated in the survey. The survey was anonymous and conducted in the form of a questionnaire. The reason for the survey was to obtain more detailed information on the educational level of the state language of a selected group of students. The symbol of each state is the state language, the state flag and the state emblem. The status of the state language of the Slovak Republic is determined by Act No 318/2009 Coll. of 30 June 2009 amending Act No 270/1995 Coll. on the State Language. The State language is not the mother tongue of every citizen; there are also citizens of national minorities in the State whose mother tongue is Hungarian, Roma, Ruthenian and other languages.
