Abstract:
Foreign language education of post-graduate students implies designing a course incorporating further development of language skills and communicative competence applied in a variety of scientific activities. Nowadays, given the spread of academic mobility among post-graduate students, scientific presentation skills are considered a vital integral component of a post-graduate foreign language training course. The presentation and the article consider methods and techniques aimed at developing foreign language skills, communicative competence, and presentation skills into a competence in interpersonal communication of a scientific presenter within a post-graduate foreign language training course. The considered educational course is applied at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and includes a gradual modular approach to elaborating the structure, content and language of a scientific presentation as well as developing a competence in interpersonal communication in post-graduate students. The authors reason the importance of the course, provide analysis of approaches that could contribute to its effective organization. Special attention is paid to the course topics and material selection, course layout and structuring. The presentation and the article outline and share the experience of the course implementation in terms of academic hours allocated to the course, division of modules, theory-practice linkage, selection of tasks and assignments that would best develop the skills and competences at each module stage of the course. The suggested sequential modular approach to the course structure, selected set of competences to be developed, relevant assessment materials, and a bank of assignments and resources for self-study at large contribute to the development of an interpersonal communication competence of a scientific presenter in the framework of a post-graduate foreign language training course.
