Abstract:
Annually the Miguel Hernández University quality service conducts a survey of perceived quality for bachelor's students, specifically about the teaching quality of each subject. The survey is specific for teachers and asks about the satisfaction level with the quality of teaching, materials and resources used and the satisfaction level with each subject. The aim of this study is to analyze how the quality perceived by students has changed for those enrolled in the subject of “Occupational Health and Medical Assessment” of the degree of Labor Relations and Human Resources of Miguel Hernández University, from the academic year 2015-2016 to 2022-2023, a period of time that includes the COVID-19 pandemic that emerged in early 2020.

The data collection was done through the virtual campus by means of personalized access of the students. The survey includes 10 items, the last of which (P9 y P10) indicate the level of satisfaction with the teacher's work and the level of overall satisfaction with the subject on a scale from 0 to 10 where 0 is "totally dissatisfied" and 10 is "totally satisfied". For the rest of items (P1 to P8) the response scale is from 1 to 5: Totally unsatisfactory (1); Unsatisfactory (2); Neither unsatisfactory nor satisfactory (3); Satisfactory (4) and Totally satisfactory (5). The response rate (number of different students responding to the survey divided by the total number of students enrolled in the course) was taken into account. In 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic courses, no valid response rates were obtained coinciding with the declaration of the alarm status and pandemic situation caused by COVID-19.

In all years in which a valid response rate was obtained, the scores of each of the items from P1 to P7 were always above or around 4. In general, the scores of the different items increased from 2015-2016 to the 2018-2019 academic year. Then, the worst scores were registered in 2019-2020, coinciding with the pandemic year, and the best in the last academic year, 2022-2023, in which all the items from P1 to P7 were above 4, P9 had the maximum value of 8.55, above the course average of 7.32, and P10 the value of 8.09, above the course average of 7.21.

Throughout the period analyzed, the satisfaction of students increased, reaching the maximum value in the 2022-2023 academic year. In this year positive opinions were received from students towards the teacher including: providing clear explanations, managing to incorporate students into the real world through examples, offering a broader vision of the contents of the subject and bringing the field of Health closer to students of Legal Sciences. The adaptations developed by the university during the COVID-19 pandemic were noteworthy, especially by improving the virtual campus. The inclusion of online tools and resources within the campus, such as online tests, videos, court rulings and articles to discuss through the forum, could help achieve higher scores and improve student satisfaction.
