Abstract:
The present paper discusses the implementation of a project mediated through H5P, an open-source plugin that can be embedded in Moodle, in an undergraduate English Studies course. The objective of the project was to help the students boost their mastery of phrasal verbs in a way that resulted engaging to them. Thus, a series of H5P interactive presentations were created, following some methodological principles to ensure the students’ integration of the phrasal verbs into their mental storage.
Before and after having completed the H5P interactive presentations and corresponding activities, the students have been asked to undertake a pre-test and a post-test, so that their performance on both questionnaires could be compared and measured. In addition, a Socrative quiz has been used to collect the students’ opinions about the teaching approaches used to work on phrasal verbs in regular classes and in the project, as well as about their view on the use of H5P and other ICTs in class.
The results of the study show that working on phrasal verbs through H5P has improved students’ performance, as all participants obtained better results in the post-test than in the pre-test. On the other hand, responses to the Socrative questionnaire reflect that the students’ idea of a dynamic classroom involves a balance between traditional teaching methods and the use of the ICTs.Keywords:
