Abstract:
Technology has improved several aspects of our lives, and education is one of them. In that regard, technological advances allow us to design pedagogical activities that were not possible a couple of years ago, and those who dedicate their life to teaching should embrace these changes and take advantage of them in order to improve student learning. For that reason, this paper aims to describe an experience of using a MOOC platform to enhance learning in an undergraduate engineering course. In order to achieve this, the MOOC platform contained custom-made video lessons and questionnaires so that students could measure their own learning. These materials were available for eight weeks of the semester, and students could access them anytime.
Finally, a survey was conducted to learn of the student´s satisfaction with the video lectures and questionnaires and their relation to their learning experience. This survey was answered by 38 students, and results show that 75% perceive that both the video lectures and questionnaires improved their learning experience. Also, students valued that the MOOC platform could contain video lectures that were always available and that the questionnaires could be used to measure their understanding of the subject.
Regarding suggestions to improve the video lectures, students asked for more examples of complex subjects (especially real-life examples), the possibility of adding exercises where they could apply the knowledge obtained and more accessibility options. Keywords:
