Abstract:
Technology has dramatically changed the way educational leaders are evaluated, selected, and trained. Based on current and ongoing research Emotional Intelligence as a new paradigm of leadership is emerging. “The rules for work are changing. We’re being judged by a new yardstick: not just by how smart we are, or by our training and expertise, but also by how well we handle ourselves and each other.” (Goleman, 1998, p. 3).
This paper will describe an ongoing research project that utilizes technology to assess online future educational leaders in the areas of Emotional Intelligence using a published standardized instrument, the Emotional Skills Profile (ESAP). The scores by each of the areas including demographics, are captured electronically and used to statistically analyze the data for a qualitative longitudinal study. Factors of success in the study include: graduate rate, employability in education administration, duration of employment in education administration, student success and campus success as defined by state mandated performance reports. Additionally, the results of the assessment will serve as the basis for leadership training for school administrators.
