Abstract:
In the modern world the learning process should be based on the principles of conscious interaction with the teacher, which is directly related to the development of the student's self-education culture, his independence, creative activity and personal responsibility for learning outcomes.One of the most important task of modern methods of teaching a foreign language is the introduction of such techniques and technologies into the process of learning that can develop independence in the language learning of students and would teach students to use a foreign language as a way of obtaining, expanding and deepening the knowledge also in their future profession.

Main scientific theories and concepts of the development of independence and cognitive independence were laid down long time ago and were studied by teachers and psychologists. In the article the author reviews the most important works in this field.

There are various types of independent work, in which students acquire knowledge, skills: master new material; consolidate and refine knowledge; develop the ability to apply knowledge in solving educational and practical problems; form skills and practical skills; form a creative character, the ability to apply knowledge in a complicated situation. In this case, each type of independent work can be divided into several subgroups, since the solution of the same didactic task in the study of a foreign language involves a variety of techniques and technologies, methods and means.

In the article the author offers the system of methods and tecniques of self- educational activity that can be applied a in the process of teaching a foreign language in the class and analizes each of them. The use of such methods and tecniques improves and facilitates the mastering of a foreign language.
