Abstract:
Introduction:
Goal setting, public posting, and positive reinforcement are behavior modification techniques used in a variety of fields, including sports performance. Objective. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the effect of a behavioral intervention consisting of goal setting, public posting, and positive reinforcement on the total distance covered in a task of a small-sided soccer game.

Methods:
A single-subject ABAB research design was used to test the effect of the behavioral intervention on the total distance covered by the participants, which was measured through PLAYR Football GPS Tracker devices. The participants were five male soccer players aged 16-18 years. Also, to test the intervention’s social validity, a semi-structured interview and a questionnaire were used.

Results:
Overall, results showed that the intervention improved participants’ effort during the task of 17 minutes of small-sided games. However, in the case of two of the participants, the results were inconsistent. Assessments of social validity showed that participants reported good acceptability and satisfaction with the intervention procedures.

Conclusions:
We believe the results of our study may have an applied value for practitioners, providing new strategies to use for increasing effort during small-sided games to be used in conjunction with established ones.
