Abstract:
In the current times when youth unemployment is high across Europe, it is a responsibility of the education providers to make sure that the teaching and learning is relevant to the workplace.

This presentation reports on the innovative approach to work based learning in the healthcare setting that is academically accredited. Aspects of work based learning also involve educational leadership and management of change but essentially work based learning is about work improvement and resulting staff development.

The presentation will discuss how work based learning can be used as an individual accredited learning unit or be part of the formal Masters Programme. The structure of the programme will be discussed and examples of projects undertaken by Masters Students given which resulted in improvements in practice. Models of facilitating work based learning will also be discussed before conclusions are drawn.
