Abstract:
Modern teaching of computer science is accomplished through the classical teaching process in which the student, the teacher and the teaching content participate, but in the new age, the fourth element, the media is involved. Teaching should be enriched by the content with text, image, sound, multimedia content and the ability to use them in different places, through various devices and at any time. Therefore, it is necessary to enrich the teaching of computer science with content and use various digital educational materials in order to make the materials more presentable, meaningful, acceptable and interesting for the students.
The use of digital educational materials in teaching ensures the achievement of learning outcomes (acquisition of knowledge, skills and habits), combining teaching methods and work systems, and monitoring and evaluating student achievement. Digital educational materials should serve a purpose and be usable (didactically-methodically designed), be used in different places, be consistent with educational outcomes, and serve teachers and students equally in the teaching process.
This paper presents the results of a survey conducted on high school students about the usage of digital educational materials in computer science teaching. The primary objective of the research was to examine whether and to what extent students use digital educational materials in subject of computer science, which digital educational materials they would like to use more in the teaching process, and what their views are on the usage of digital educational materials.
The research was conducted by using a questionnaire that collected data on the attitudes of 121 students on the usage of digital educational tools in teaching computer science in secondary schools. The paper provides more detailed results that show that students accept the usage of digital educational materials in computer science with some differences considering their gender and educational programme in which they are enrolled. Keywords:
