Abstract:
The given paper is devoted to the phenomenon of bilingualism in the context of intercultural communication. The purpose of the research is to theoretically define the notion of bilinguocultural adaptation as a set of abilities and commitments to communicate efficiently in two linguo-cultures. A bilingual person sees communication primarily from the point of view of two cultures, being adapted to the real and possible communication situations and being able to understand the language and general cultural characteristics of the interaction partner.
The research conducted by the authors proves the scientific relevance of the concept of bilinguocultural adaptation in the context of intercultural communication. Using specially developed diagnostic tools, the authors studied the language behavior of bilingual children in the culture of the first and the second native language. The study undertaken compares the language behavior of the bilingual children in Italian and Russian linguo-cultures in real and possible communication situations.
The analysis of the language behavior of a bilingual person in the context of intercultural communication led the authors to the conclusion that bilinguocultural adaptation exits as a phenomenon and needs scientific study. The paper presents the scientific definition of bilingucultural adaptation as the result of the given research.
