Abstract:
The paper deals with education and training of firefighters for service with a focus on environmental interventions. It points out to the importance of protecting the environment from hazardous substances and the effects of hazardous substances on ecosystems. Furthermore, it transparently discusses the intervention activities of firefighters in the Slovak Republic, the division of interventions by type. From the above-mentioned interventions, it provides clear and concise statistics of intervention activities with a focus on environmental interventions. It highlights the timeliness and need for education in this area. It introduces the system of education of firefighters on admission to the service and organization, which is engaged in their learning and practical training. The next part describes the curriculum and focus of theoretical and practical training for professional firefighters in the framework of basic vocational training. It selects from them areas that are focused on environmental interventions. These theoretical foundations are then compared with the real requirements of professional firefighters.
