Abstract:
According to generation theory, each generation not only has its own distinctive features, different attitudes and values or uses different methods of expression, communication, information management, etc., but due to all the above-mentioned aspects, each generation has a different learning and working style as well as different educational needs. And this, in turn, means that each generation has a need for a slightly different teaching/learning environment, both in general and in a specific sense. For these reasons, in cooperation with other Lithuanian higher educational institutions, a study was carried out, the main purpose of which was to find out what kind of learning and studying in the broad and narrow sense is favourable, according to the students themselves, for modern students (for that new generation), and what, in their opinion, would be the most suitable means for improving that educational environment. The article and the presentation will share the results of the research and, based on the analysis of theoretical and practical discourse, insights about the prerequisites for creating a stimulating, engaging, motivating learning and study environment for the modern student and the self-directed learning competencies and their educational opportunities that are so relevant for the student himself in this context. The article will also analyze the adaptation problems and challenges of students - especially the first year - and possible ways to overcome them.
