Abstract:
Thousands of articles, dozens of theories of motivation, long years of discussions - why have we not yet been able to solve the problem of motivation, why have we not found the tools for development of motivation, why are we still struggling to find that one recipe for motivation? Maybe because, in fact, we don't have to motivate - after all, there are as many motives as there are people, i.e. of learners - but to help them discover the appropriate motives themselves, to help them discover the meaning of learning, which in itself becomes a motive to do something, move forward, learn, change. The relevance of looking for the meaning in educational process is one of the m most successful ways of development of students' motivation.

As well as to develop self-directed learning competencies that will enable students to take responsibility for the study results they received as well as become managers of their own learning process. The most important that those things also have the great positive influence on the self-motivation. Especially that self-directed learning competencies as well as self-motivation are one of the most relevant characteristics and skills for future labour market.

The presentation and the article will be based on the experience of our university of applied sciences in development of new kind of motivation and competencies of self-directed learning.
