Abstract:
The contemporary directions of the research into the area of artistic education of individuals with mental disorders reveal a need for creating conditions of support for artists in their education. Building the culture of openness to the mental problems of individuals with mental disorders and designing effective support mechanisms increase their chances for effective participation in artistic independence and their social adaptation in the community. This paper aims at presenting system solutions to support artists with mental disorders in the Integrative Ensemble of Song and Dance "MAZOWIACY" in Warsaw, with particular reference to the author's prophylactic program in the scope of mental health, promoting activities designed to increase the social and artistic integration of participants with mental disorders. The program description was based on the methodological foundations of an evaluation study, the author revealed indicators and methods for verifying research questions, characterized the participants of the program, showed their educational and health profiles. In the conclusion the author presented selected findings of his own research. Formulation of conclusions took into account the fact that in the face of the specificity of participants' mental disorders, it is vital to create conditions promoting mental health and updating the program supporting the amplification of the level of their individual functioning in culture on an everyday basis. Despite the fact that using therapeutic activities is vital for improvement of the participants' functioning and frequently provides a source of their expectations towards the artistic Ensemble, it is essential to separate places of treatment from places of performing artistic activity. The confidence between the participant and the supporting individuals, and first of all, simultaneously, taking advantage of suitable treatment and creative stimulation seems to be an essential aspect leading to participants' commitment and their reflection over their development. Keywords:
