Abstract:
Background:
Educational activities and pedagogical strategies in healthcare settings are aimed at maintaining health, preventing damage to health, restoring health, and also improving the quality of life during illness. Patient education and learning in hospitals are considered as an essential part of optimal care for patients with the disease and one of the essential aspects of nursing nowadays. In this regard, the key educators in healthcare settings are mainly general nurses who are important elements of a pedagogical process and healthcare settings change in learning environments where patients need to change their attitudes and behaviors.

Aim:
This article aims to find out the system of patient education in hospitals according to nurses. The first partial goal is to find out what is the nurses' role in patient learning and education, the second goal is to describe the activities to support patients´ health state and learning, and the third analyzes barriers in patients´ education for nurses.

Method:
A qualitative research design is conducted using semi-structured interviews with three general nurses.

Findings:
There are important prerequisites and attributes which lead to successful educational effects on clients to learn, adapt and develop, namely establishing a contact with patients, professional and empathic communication, the ability to evoke patients' interests, getting patients to cooperate and eventually change their attitudes. For these reasons, nurses need to know proper basics and theoretical frameworks in pedagogy, specifically important pedagogical learning theories, strategies, and activities to be successful in their pedagogical mission in hospital and clinical.
