Abstract:
The Czech Republic was not the target country of immigration before, but the situation has been gradually changing over the last two decades and the Czech Republic is becoming a new home for members of many ethnicities and nationalities. The main stream of migration to the Czech Republic traditionally flows from Eastern European countries which are Ukraine, Slovakia, Russia, etc.

The paper deals with the current topic of migration and its changes in the Czech Republic on the example of migrants from Ukraine. Ukrainians are already the most numerous national minority in the Czech Republic with a relatively long - but not entirely known - migration history. Attention is paid to socio-cultural specifics of Ukrainians and education of Ukrainian pupils at primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic.

The aim of the paper is to specify the Ukrainian national minority in the Czech Republic, describe the reasons for the arrival and purpose of the Ukrainians' stay in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, our goal is to describe the differences between Czech and Ukrainian culture and education in key contexts (historical, social, economic and religious) and at least partially contribute to mutual understanding between the majority society and the Ukrainian national minority. Last but not least, we will present the experience of Ukrainian pupils with education in the Czech Republic, on the basis of which we will draw recommendations for teaching.

The research uses mixed design, where we process data obtained by questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews with migrants of Ukrainian origin permanently settled in the Czech Republic.
