Abstract:
Lublin University of Technology (LUT) is focused on ensuring high quality of education and on adjusting it to labour market needs. Professional studies graduates have very high chance to find a good position in the labour market. Although LUT educates at university level, it introduces elements of professional studies in order to improve the quality of education. These elements of professional studies are developed at one of the priority courses of the university - Computer Science.
Very important role in the process of professional studies implementation of practical play ICT companies. Their opinion about professionalization elements is of great importance, because it helps to adapt studies curricula to the needs of the Polish and European labour market.
The paper presents results of assessment regarding preferred forms of ITC studies professionalization. The assessment was conducted among local ICT companies – the most likely employers for computer science students and graduates of Lublin University of Technology.
The assessment was performed based on The guide of vocational training organization (GoVTO) – the document with a set of guidelines, templates and procedures dedicated to the organization and implementation of professional education emphasizing the principles of cooperation with enterprises. The GoVTO was developed under the Leonardo da Vinci Mobility project “Professionalization of bachelor’s degree studies in computer science in Lublin University of Technology (UIKI)”. The GoVTO document contains also the principles of cooperation with enterprises. It includes activities such as students’ internships and practice in companies, students’ educational and professional projects in collaboration with industry, exchanges and the use of tools supporting cooperation between the university and the business environment. This document also complies with the EQF requirements.
The assessment presented in the paper regards such aspects of professionalization like:
- process of graduates’ expected competencies preparation
- discussion meetings and panels regarding study’s curricula adjustments and modifications
- adjustment of technology used in the classroom
- join master and bachelor theses supervising and supporting
- regular and guest lectures and laboratories conducting
- implementation of internships and traineeships
The paper presents also comparison of current and previous results examining the quality of cooperation between industry and university and students competences according ICT companies.Keywords:
