Abstract:
The period of industrialization of the Brazil entailed the necessity for many workers to properly operate the machines. In this period, two trends in education appeared in the country: one directed to the heirs of the great businessmen and landowners, which aimed at intellectual education; and another one, in which technical schools formed hand workforce to meet the demands of the labor market. As a consequence, the capitalist society fostered social inequality, increasing illiteracy in the country. Aiming to correct historical failures of the Brazilian educational system, government policies have emerged for education emphasizing equal opportunities for all. Among these, a program should be highlighted: Professional and Basic Education Integrated on the Mode of Education for Youngs and Adults (Educação Profissional Integrada a Educação Básica na Modalidade Educação de Jovens e Adultos -PROEJA), which provides conditions for individuals to become professional and return to the labor market. The present work aims to establish a historical analysis on the feasibility of the Education for Youngs and Adults, as well as the paradigms and challenges for its implementation nowadays. In addition, a working methodology, in line with the specificities of the target audience, and able to relate them to the labor market, is proposed. Such methodology is derived from an analysis of the humanity production methods reasoned on historical materialism and observation of all periods of history, from ancient times to the modern world.
