SURVEY OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ADVANCED REPRESENTATION METHODS IN THE WORLD'S TOP ARCHITECTURE UNIVERSITIES

Abstract:
The research investigates the presence and the educational approach of dedicated courses for the teaching of advanced representation methods – AI (artificial Intelligence, VPL (Visual Programming Language), parametric modelling, BIM (Building Information Modelling), 4D/motion graphics, 3D digital survey - in the Bachelor and Master courses in the world's top Schools of Architecture.
All these methods rely on digital tools that are continually evolving, so it is interesting to analyse their implementation in current curricula and to develop a research method to monitor their future implementation.
The study is based on a semantic survey of the titles and descriptions of the classes listed in the course catalogues of the 20 top Schools of Architecture according to international rankings.
The number of courses and other parameters are analysed to identify relevant elements.
The survey reveals that some representation topics and methods are worldwide adopted and taught, while others are more specifically taught in some Universities, and others, such as AI, are not yet widely diffused.
The survey was conducted over the last two academic years to assess trends, particularly those related to emerging AI-based techniques.
The definition and training in semantic research based on the words in the course titles could be used to expand the survey to a larger number of Universities, or to monitor the future evolution of education in the field of visual representation in Architectural studies.Keywords:
