Abstract:
The study was based on an experiential project organised with a group of graduate translation students in the second cycle of studies (M.A. programme) and is rooted in ethnography of translation. The ethnographic research paradigm, which views translation as a cultural, social and physical act that is located spatially and temporally, is a recent response of translation researchers to the issue of facing otherness. It involves involvement of participants, creative thinking and field work. The goal of the project was to improve the translation student learning motivation and produce a publication on legends as a transcreation project. The goal of the conducted research was to enquire into creative thinking, strategic translation, learner autonomy and project management, and the method used was Action Research in Translation Studies that implements cyclic research steps consisting in action and reflection in mutual influence. A group of students engaged in the project worked on the transcreation of Polish legends into English in indigenous surroundings so the project involved field work and produced an outcome which was the publication of a translation collection.
