Abstract:
The model of society we live in is largely dominated by technologies. In the field of education, technologies are instruments with great potential to support the teaching process, that may be easily used by both students and teachers. This fact requires that teachers dominate the technologies and know how to apply them properly in an educational context. If, on the one hand, the classroom environment can be enriched with the use of educational technologies, on the other hand the methodological challenge also becomes greater, requiring the use of new approaches, compatible with active and dynamic working models in the classroom. The continuous training of teachers is a structural element to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of the educational system. Digital technologies, most of the time, help in the exploration of a set of activities, providing new ways of thinking and acting mathematically. However, it is essential that teachers know the possibilities offered by digital technologies in order to integrate them into their practices, which requires training in the pedagogical use of these technologies, and time to plan innovative curricular activities. Taking advantage of the opportunity offered by a national conference targeted to mathematics teachers and guided by the objective of contributing to the teachers training in educational technology, a workshop dedicated to the subject applied to mathematics was proposed. The workshop, which worked on content from mathematics programs for the 3rd cycle of basic education and secondary education, was prepared to allow participating teachers to acquire skills in the use of technologies in mathematics, focusing on their own practices with students. More specifically, the session explored platforms and applications in statistics, so that teachers could include different methodologies and technological resources in their pedagogical practices, thus contributing to greater involvement and satisfaction in the teaching and learning of statistics. Teaching and learning environments, such as GeoGebra Classroom and Desmos, were used to explore concepts in the field of statistics. Throughout the workshop and from the teachers’ point of view, we sought to improve their knowledge, understand the difficulties experienced and get to know their perspectives regarding the future use of these tools in their pedagogical practices. This work aims to present a proposal for a workshop for training teachers on technologies applied to statistics, having been carried out through a case study of a qualitative nature. The analysis of the discussions during the workshop revealed that the activities provoked reflections as well as helped the teachers discover new approaches in the teaching of mathematics.
