DEVELOPMENT OF INTERACTIVE WEB APPLICATIONS FOR TEACHING PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTIONS IN DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS

Abstract:
The topic of Probability Distributions, included in the Descriptive Statistics curriculum for undergraduate programs in Administration and Accounting, presents a conceptual challenge for students. This topic covers discrete distributions (Binomial, Poisson, and Hypergeometric) and continuous distributions (Normal), which are essential for data interpretation.
The objective of this work was to develop and implement a set of interactive web applications as didactic tools to facilitate the understanding of these concepts and their practical application.
Interactive web calculators were created for each distribution, incorporating user interface (UI) elements such as sliders, dropdown menus, and dynamic graphs. These applications, hosted on a server for on-demand remote access, allow users to input specific parameters and instantly visualize both probability calculations (for discrete and continuous distributions) and the corresponding graphical representation of the area under the curve.
The developed tools transform learning from an abstract process into an interactive experience. Students can manipulate variables in real time, observe immediate changes in probabilities and graphs, and explore relationships between parameters. This promotes active learning and a more intuitive understanding of the theory, highlighting its relevance for decision-making.
The implementation of these interactive applications represents a significant pedagogical innovation in the teaching of statistics. By providing a dynamic and accessible platform, the educational experience is enriched, conceptual understanding is enhanced, and students are equipped with a practical tool for data analysis, overcoming the limitations of traditional methods.Keywords:
