Abstract:
In today's information society, our education, especially higher education, faces the challenge of improving their curricula, teaching methods and forms, increasing student motivation, teaching efficiency, and improving graduates' preparedness for life in a rapidly changing and unpredictable environment.

This paper describes the process, starting points, goals and achieved results in the conditions of the Catholic University in Slovakia, where specifically in the study program "Teachers of Informatics" are prepared future teachers of Informatics for Primary and Secondary Schools in Slovakia. The presented information is the result of scientific work in the project CEGA (Cultural and Educational Grant Agency) with name “Comprehensive Innovation and Educational Support of Study Program "Teaching Informatics" with the "Internet of Things"”, which will end this year.

The Council of the European Union has identified 8 key competences for lifelong learning, of which digital competences play a very important role. It is advantageous to support their development at universities by introducing the teaching of the Internet of Things (IoT) into the study programs presented here. It is a modern and interesting issue closely connected with the daily life of students, in which they show enormous interest. The paper presents specific changes and ways of incorporating this issue into bachelor's and master's studies, the Extended Study of Informatics of then Teachers and the study program of the University of the Third Age. It provides recommendations on how to teach computer science in modern ways that are close to today's students and thus increase their motivation, interest in studying and thus better prepare them for practice.

This article presents specific subjects and their content, which were added to the content of the study program as well as subjects that were modified and supplemented by IoT issues. At the same time, the findings from the first testing of such an innovated study program with the relevant recommendations are presented.
