Abstract:

Causes of the links between work stress, fatigue and engagement in work of the teachers working in public and private schools during the COVID-19 pandemic are different that encourages to distinguish essential factors in different work environments broadly and comprehensively. The aim of the research was to review the links between work stress, fatigue and engagement in work of the teachers working in public and private schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sample of 257 teachers working in public and private schools participated in the research. 148 teachers from public schools and 109 teachers from private schools. The research has been conducted by online survey. The survey form consisted of demographic questions, HSE Management Standards Indicator Tool (Edwards et al., 2008), Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20) (Smets, et al., 1995) and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) (Schaufeli, Bakker, 2003).

The results of the research showed that the teachers working in public schools feel more work stress and fatigue and are less engaged in work compared to the teachers working in private schools. In addition, it was found that the greater the work-related stress, the greater the anxiety and the lower engagement in work. The length of service, pedagogical qualification, fatigue, and work stress can predict work engagement. The shorter length of service, lower work stress, fatigue and higher pedagogical qualification, the higher engagement in work.
