ENHANCING STUDENT OUTCOMES THROUGH INTERACTIVE LEARNING: A STUDY OF KAHOOT QUIZ ENGAGEMENT

Abstract:
Student attendance at lectures and their engagement with interactive educational tools such as Kahoot! play a crucial role in their academic success. This study focuses on analyzing the relationship between lecture attendance, measured through Kahoot! quizzes, and final exam grades. The research includes 356 students, whose percentage success in Kahoot! quizzes and final grades were analyzed. Data were obtained from anonymized records of students who participated in lectures and Kahoot! quizzes throughout the semester. For this research, three columns were key: student login, percentage success in Kahoot responses, and final exam grade. We analyzed the correlation between these variables and conducted a regression analysis for a more detailed examination of the relationship between Kahoot quiz participation and final grades. Correlation analysis revealed a moderately strong negative correlation (-0.42) between Kahoot! quiz success and final grades, indicating that higher success in Kahoot! quizzes is associated with better (lower) final grades. Regression analysis showed that each increase of one unit in the Kahoot! score is associated with a decrease of 1.1186 units in the final grade, which is statistically significant (p < 0.001). The t-test confirmed that the difference between students with higher and lower Kahoot! quiz success is statistically significant (p < 0.001). These results suggest that active student participation in lectures and engagement in interactive quizzes can significantly influence their academic performance. Interactive tools like Kahoot! can serve not only as a means of engaging students but also as an effective tool for monitoring and improving their academic outcomes. The results of this study can serve as a basis for the implementation and support of interactive educational tools in higher education, thereby increasing teaching effectiveness and promoting active learning. Our study confirms the importance of active student engagement in the learning process through interactive tools such as Kahoot!. The results show that students who regularly attend lectures and achieve high success in Kahoot! quizzes tend to achieve better academic outcomes. These findings can be useful for educators and educational institutions in developing effective teaching strategies and methods that support active learning and improve student success.
