Abstract:
The case teaching is a question driven active learning method. The case method combines two elements: the case itself and the discussion of that case. A teaching case is a rich narrative in which individuals or groups must make a decision or solve a problem. Students work with different materials such as texts, pictures, videos, spreadsheet workbooks. They also participate in group and open discussions. Although this method is modern, it is implemented in a traditional way.

Case Teaching Support System a new interactive software tool for supporting building and performance of the cases is presented in the manuscript. The general description of teaching method and its implementation in engineering education is discussed as well. The tool was designed and built at the Silesian University of Technology within the framework of the Clean, Fossil and Alternative Fuels Energy programme of the EIT KIC Innoenergy Master School. The new platform allows teacher to design a course based on the case teaching method, distribute pre-reading materials and material during the case performance. Additionally system makes it possible to effectively guide a group of students through classes and carry out summary survey. The Case Teaching Support System itself as well as experiences from its implementation are discussed in the paper.
