Abstract:
In these unprecedented times, academic isolation seems to be the biggest concern for educators. The engagement and connection with the students moved from face to face contact to remote communication model. The paradox of such a situation is that engagement with the students is more critical than ever. Educators have to strive to recreate the lost moments and build a new reality for the students. They have to speak freely about what such unique and unexpected situation brings and make sure that they connect deeply with the students. Educators need to find a way to replace face to face interaction with the virtual one. The higher education institutions cannot allow the students to walk away due to the academic offering because the students cannot find value in what the universities can offer. There is a high degree of uncertainty, and it has to be fully addressed. Remote learning allows educators to have a unique way of seeing their students in their personal settings. Empathy plays a significant role in understanding where the students come from, and educators can fill the gap. The paper explains how educators can use adaptive and technical methods to fully engage with the students when education and emotional needs have to be met simultaneously.
